Thanks, wishes and resolutions from the Evalueserve IPR&D team

The holiday season is for many of us a time of reflection and gazing into the promise of the future. It’s the season of gratitude for what you’ve received in the past year (even learning how to do things better next time!), fond wishes for those around you, and resolutions for the year ahead. Before many of us sign off for a few quiet days at home or on vacation, I wanted to share these three things with you:

Acknowledging your help with our gratitude

Let’s start with a huge thank you to our customers, business partners, and employees! 2018 was a great year for Evalueserve IPR&D. We experienced the largest growth in our business in many years – this would not have been possible without the trust of our customers, the passion and hard work of our employees, and the great collaboration with our business partners.

In the words of mathematician and philosopher, Alfred North Whitehead: “No one who achieves success does so without the help of others. The wise and confident acknowledge this help with gratitude.” So, thank you for your role in our success!

If fact, it was a great year for the Intellectual Property and Research and Development Services industry overall. This included: significant investments from new and mature players; great innovation and product ideas to challenge the status quo; and at the various trade shows we attended, we witnessed (and contributed to!) an incredible vibrancy and – most important – inspiring customer initiatives in corporate IP and R&D across various industries.

Make a wish …

“A little smile, a word of cheer,

A bit of love from someone near,

A little gift from one held dear,

Best wishes for the coming year.

These make a merry Christmas!”

John Greenleaf Whittier, Poet

Our best wishes go to all our customers, business partners and employees! We wish you and your families a truly merry Christmas and a happy, successful and interesting New Year.

But wish also has another meaning … for our business and the IPR&D Services industry, we also have a few wishes we hope will come true next year, and we will work hard to do our part:

  • We’d like to see more of smart, ideally digitally-enabled, ‘knowledge-managed’, cost-efficient, and better-controlled preparation and prosecution solutions. The process of drafting and prosecuting patents has changed, but is still a process that should get more attention from innovative companies. At Evalueserve, we will continue to focus on driving innovation and delivering excellent service in this space.
  • We hope to see others joining our quest for better, controlled quality in IPR&D search and intelligence. We feel there has not been enough attention to the quality of search and intelligence for use cases which can’t be automated for the foreseeable future – such as those with significant legal risks, financial implications, or importance of business decision. We’d like to see greater focus on how the optimum combination of mind + machine could be used to improve such use cases – which constitute > 70% of all use cases by value!
  • We don’t talk a lot about it – but our Chemical Product Safety Intelligence practice has witnessed phenomenal growth in recent years due to a strong increase in product safety compliance requirements and the efficient solutions we provide to our clients. So, we want to see more of this in 2019.
  • We also wish for better and more communication in the industry, especially relevant discussions in specialist media, journals, blogs and at industry events. This is an exciting industry with interesting career and business opportunities for many of us, so why don’t we talk about it more?

New Year’s resolve

We’ll not rest in making our services, products and communication better in order to generate value for our clients and our industry. We’ve resolved to do this more and better! In doing so, we’ll invest in training and other aspects important for our employees – as they are at the core of the value we add. And we’ll make sure we make all these wishes true by working hard!

So check in on the Information Adventurers blog in 2019 – subscribe if you haven’t done so already! – and we’ll continue to provide a more detailed view under the hood of our search quality initiative, and to encourage new voices in the debate.
